What's Happening in the Auto World in April?

18 April 2018

The new Formula One season has started, the World Rally Championship is in full swing and the weather’s improving to make visiting those early morning car boot sales and outdoor motor shows all the more tempting. Whether you’re looking for classic car shows this weekend that are worth attending or some racing action to take your kids to, there are plenty of fantastic car events going on in April.

Perthshire Classic Car Festival

When: 21st and 22nd April

Where: Perth, Scotland

Scotland’s premier classic car show takes place at the impressive Scone Palace with the Perthshire Classic Car Festival. Organised by the Rotary Club of Blairgowrie and Perth and Kinross Council, this is the first time the festival will run across two days. That means there’s double the amount of excitement surrounding it in 2018. On Saturday 300 classic cars will be on display at the palace, with half of them driving into Perth city centre. Then on Sunday, HRH Prince Michael of Kent will lead 80 classic cars on a 120 or 140-mile route from Blairgowrie Golf Club into Aberdeenshire and back to Scone. All proceeds from the weekend will be donated to Cancer Research UK, Alzheimer Scotland and the Rotary Foundation.

Drive It Day

When: 22nd April

Where: UK-wide

The Sunday drive at the Perthshire Classic Car Festival is part of Drive It Day, a UK-wide event. Organised by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs, it aims to raise awareness about the importance of the classic vehicle movement in the UK, while raising money for charity too. Across the country there are many organised drives and tours in celebration of the day, with the Federation including over 450 car clubs and museums, so look out for your local event.

Ripon Classic Car and Bike Show

When: 22nd April

Where: Ripon, North Yorkshire, UK

For those living in North Yorkshire, the Ripon Classic Car Show could be a great way to spend Drive It Day. This will be the 16th edition of the Ripon Classic Car Show and the first show of classic car season at Ripon Racecourse. More than 500 classic vehicles will replace the horses usually found trotting around the racecourse, with plenty of club stands and a large autojumble offering the chance to pick up some bargains. If you’re thinking of bringing the whole family to the Ripon Classic Car Show, then there’s good news; dogs on leads are more than welcome too.

London Classic Car Boot Sale

When: 28th and 29th April

Where: Kings Cross, London, UK

When you think of a classic car boot sale, London has plenty full of old Peugeot 206 cars selling dodgy goods and polystyrene cups full of tea. The London Classic Car Boot Sale is different though. Think of it as more of an incredibly cheap festival, taking place at Kings Cross from 10am to 6pm with no need for an early start. Instead it will be filled with genuinely classic cars (all pre-1989), craft beer stalls, vintage fashion, vinyl and collectibles and delicious street food.

British and Midland Hill Climb Championship

When: 28th and 29th April

Where: Prescott Hill, Cheltenham, UK

For some racing action to round off the month, the British and Midland Hill Climb Championship is the place to go. Some of the fastest hill climb cars in the country will be battling it out over the two days, with NHCA motorcycles making an appearance on the Saturday. Watching them tackle the tight roads with sidecars in tow will undoubtedly be highly entertaining.

There are plenty of car events going on throughout April across the UK, with Robins and Day bringing you some of the highlights every month.
