What's Happening in the Auto World in January?

10 January 2018

Entering the New Year and many petrol heads who have kept up with the latest car news will be itching to get back out there and experience what’s happening in the auto world. Many of the regular weekly and monthly autojumbles and car meet-ups will be restarting, while there are plenty more exciting car shows from a local to international level. These are some of the best car shows 2018 has to offer in its first few weeks, covering events going on in January and early February, from family-friendly to internationally renowned auto shows.

Vienna Auto Show 2018

When: 11th to 14th January

Where: Messe Wien, Vienna, Austria

One of the first big, international car shows 2018 has in store is the Vienna Auto Show. Taking place over four days in the Austrian capital, over 400 brand new car models and 40 brands are expected to be in attendance, including both Peugeot and Citroën. That’s along with a wide range of vehicles that showcase high quality design, performance and efficiency. Plus, a number of concept and show cars, Austrian and European premieres.

Performance Car Show

When: 13th and 14th January

Where: NEC Arena, Birmingham

As part of Autosport International, the Performance Car Show features some of the world’s greatest supercars. An incredible range of exotic supercars, rare and historic models will all be on display at the Performance Car Show, including a UK debut from the 2018 Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, a BAC Mono and more. Attendees can not only see such incredible cars in person but also some in action in the Live Action Arena and take part in certain driving experiences.

Malvern Drive-In Classic Car and Bike Autojumble

When: 21st January

Where: Three Counties Showground, Malvern, Worcestershire

A much more lowkey event, the Malvern Drive-In Classic Car and Bike Autojumble may better suit those after a quiet morning or afternoon perusing or exhibiting some classic motor vehicles. Indoor pitches mean you don’t have to brave the crisp January weather, while hot food and drinks will be available. If your classic car’s off the road in winter, then it offers a great opportunity to pick up some spare parts in the autojumble too.

Washington Auto Show

When: 23rd January to 4th February

Where: Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington D.C., USA

The Washington Auto Show is one of the USA’s largest car shows, lasting across ten days with more than 600 new models from over 35 manufacturers on display. From a Ferrari Enzo to Lamborghini Spyder, plenty of luxury sports cars can be expected. It’s not just cars though, there will be a variety of VIP tours led by automotive writers, celebrities and sports personalities all appearing too. Taking place in late January/early February, you’ll need to book your flights sooner rather than later if you want to attend!

Footman James Great Western Classic

When: 10th and 11th February

Where: Bath and West Showground, Somerset

Another of the first classic cars shows 2018 expects to be bigger and better than last year’s is the Footman James Great Western Classic down in Somerset. Hundreds of classic cars will not only be showcased but also for sale, with traders and parts suppliers offering rare items too. Many car clubs will be in attendance, with prizes for the most impressive stands sure to up the competition and make it an even more special event.

You should be able to find at least one car show to attend in the first few weeks of 2018, whether in the UK or abroad, and remember to keep checking Robins and Day for the latest car news in the future.
