What's Happening in the Auto World over Christmas and New Year?

06 December 2017

The festive period is one of the quietest times in the auto world, following the end of the Formula 1 season and summer car shows seeming to be as far away as possible. Still, if you’re desperate for some car related activities to keep you or your family entertained, and also get a nice respite from all the madness of Christmas and New Year, there are a few car events taking place around the UK. These are some of the best ones happening from December through to the early New Year.

Blokes Shopping Day and Classic Car Meet

When: 17th December

Where: Melton Mowbray Town Centre

If you’ve left your Christmas shopping to the last minute (and live within travelling distance of Melton Mowbray), then the Blokes Shopping Day and Classic Car Meet is the perfect answer. Melton Mowbray Market Place will have a couple of elves on hand offering a free gifting service, where you can leave your presents to be wrapped and looked after while you head to the vintage and classic car meet. Enjoy the array of classic cars and bikes on display, alongside gift and craft stalls, before returning to the elves to pick up your freshly wrapped presents in a much less stressful manner.

Benington Classics Boxing Day Special

When: 26th December

Where: The Lordship Arms, Benington, Stevenage

Organised by the Hatfield Heritage Vehicle Society, the Benington Classics Boxing Day Special could be the perfect antidote to eating too much turkey the day before. There’s no need to book and nothing to pay. Simply turn up, either in your own classic motor or not, from midday onwards and enjoy the eclectic range of classic vehicles on display. Then afterwards you can head into the Lordship Arms for some food and drink as the festivities continue.

Huddersfield Autojumble

When: 31st December

Where: Old Market Building, Huddersfield

One of the last car events of 2017, the Huddersfield Autojumble takes place on New Year’s Eve in the town’s Victorian market building. Expect to find everything from car parts to bits of auto memorabilia from the wide array of stalls set up. Arranged by Phoenix Fairs, it has been running successfully for 25 years now. Hot and cold food stalls will be present, with doors opening at 7am for stallholders and 10am for customers.

New Year’s Day Classic Car Gathering

When: 1st January 2018

Where: Brooklands Museum, Weybridge

Kick off the New Year in classic car style at the New Year’s Day Classic Gathering at Brooklands Museum in Weybridge. From 9am until 4pm the whole family can have a fun time with more than 1,000 unique vehicles expected to be on show, live music and a winter barbeque. The museum will be open as well, with a family ticket costing £35, or £13.50 for adults and £7 for children (5 to 16) each.

Autosport International

When: 11th to 14th January 2018

Where: NEC Arena, Birmingham

One of the first big car events of 2018 in the UK will be Autosport International at Birmingham’s NEC Arena. In exciting news, the 2018 World Rally Championship will launch at Autosport International ahead of its season opener in Monte Carlo, for the first time ever. Plus, there will be an appearance from Nigel Mansell, the Forza Ferrari supercar will be the show’s centrepiece and there will be plenty more exciting cars and industry experts at the event. The first two days are trade only, before a couple of public days and the performance car show.

There’s plenty going on over the festive period if you’re looking for a car event to keep you busy at the end of 2017 and into the New Year.
