A decrease in tyre tread depth leads to the deterioration of the tyre's performance during cornering and braking, which means the tyre is unable to transmit traction and braking forces to the road as effectively. Driving with worn or damaged tyres could cost you £2,500 and 3 penalty points.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA) recommends that you change your tyres when the tread depth is 3mm, as below this level it takes longer to stop in wet conditions.
When tyres become worn or damaged they must be replaced. There must, by law, be at least 1.6mm of tread depth across the centre 3/4 of the width of the tread throughout the entire circumference of the tyre. There must be no damage to the tyre body - sidewalls or tread, no bulges or cuts.
By booking your vehicle in for a free tyre check at Robins & Day we can ensure your tyres are safe and meet legal requirements. We also have tyres available from just £29.99 if a replacement is required.
